Thinking outside of the box was important to Jenna and Chris, who hosted their Fair-themed wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns last weekend. There were giant colourful, inflatables galore, a food truck from their favourite food-haunt in The Shambles and an ice-cream sundae bar.
When Jenna and Chris first went to look around their venue, it was actually still being built, the barns had no roofs so as the as you’d expect, was a building site. Nevertheless they joined, Letty and trusted in her vision and the plans for the venue. When the site was finished and the couple finally went to take a look around they told me how it was more than they could have ever wished for.
A wild card that 100% paid off.
They were totally right, the venue was amazing, flooded with natural light and still presenting all of the charm and character that the old barns would have once possessed. Letty and her team have created a stunning place for couples to share their day with others. Not only are the barns beautiful, her extensive research in to what couples need and would like on their day have really made a success of it and the day flows fluently even on the most trying of days like Saturday, when after a summer of drought we experience heavy rain and thunder storms for 80% of the wedding.
When it came to food Jenna and Chris love the stuff and they love it when you get a plate of deliciousness that you can never finish too! They didn't hesitate when it came to choosing who would do their food, they chose there favourite food van from their local food haunt, based in The Shambles at York. The Taylor Made Kitchen, certainly didn't fail to deliver with the guests all raving about the food, not only did it look fantastic and taste delicious, there was plenty of it as expected. The couple had asked the guest to pre order their favourite street food in advance and then when it came to the time everyone was due to eat they simply walked outside and collected it from the food van itself, which was pretty awesome!
Jenna works at Hotel Chocolate, so as you can imagine she's pretty passionate about the stuff along with different and wonderful things too, she was a huge fan of Choccywoccydoodah Cakes, so since the company had ceased trading she asked local cake makers Sweet Chic, based near York to make an inspired version.
The idea of the cakes is that they are meant to be personal to the clients/couple, so their cake had included on it, their pet cat and dog along with a model of Jenna's late step-father, topped off with a model of themselves, it also included their names and was decorated purely with chocolate, it looked quite spectacular to say the least.
These two are fun-loving and young at heart, they enjoy a good fair where they would be first on the amusements and attractions together. Because of this, they decided they would bring them to the wedding, they wanted their guests to have plenty of things to do together, hoping they could have a laugh and make it a day to remember.
The rain jeopardised this to start with, but thankfully after the storm passed Chris and the rest of the guests got stuck in and despite getting a little wet, they made the most of it anyway!
This was fantastic to watch and highly entertaining to capture...
Despite the rain, Jenna and Chris’ day went by without a hitch and they managed to do everything they had set out to do, from Jenna’s brother conducting the ceremony and the relaxed set-up, where there were no tables plans at all to their guests getting to enjoy the fun inflatables outside along with the amazing Choccywoccydoodah inspired wedding cake…
