On the 9th of August, I had the pleasure of photographing Rebekah and Joe’s stunning wedding at Hackness Grange, near Scarborough. This picturesque venue, with its blend of charm and elegance, was the perfect backdrop for their special day.
Falling in Love with Hackness Grange
Rebekah and Joe first visited Hackness Grange shortly after they got engaged. They were on the hunt for a venue that not only captivated them but also provided ample accommodation for Joe's family, who would be travelling down for the event. Hackness Grange checked every box on their list—and then some.
Although an outdoor ceremony wasn’t initially on their bucket list, they were immediately drawn to the weather-proof outdoor ceremony area and the charming bridge over the lake. The expansive grounds, the serene atmosphere, and the overall set-up of Hackness Grange made it incomparable to any other venue they visited. They knew right away that this was the place where they wanted to say "I do."
A Shared Love of Food
One of the most important aspects of the day for Joe and Rebekah was the wedding breakfast. This wasn’t just a meal for them; it was a nod to how their relationship blossomed—through a shared love of food and exploring new restaurants in York during their courtship. Their anticipation for this part of the day was palpable, and Hackness Grange delivered a feast that exceeded their expectations.
Memories and Monty
Rebekah and Joe have already created a lifetime of memories since they first met in 2017 at York St John University, but perhaps the most significant one was welcoming Monty, their beloved dog, into their family in July 2020. Monty is their pride and joy, and they were adamant about including him in their wedding day and, of course, in their photos.
Luckily, the weather was as beautiful as they had hoped. The breeze gently swept over the venue, carrying dandelion clocks through the air as guests mingled on the patio. It was a grounding, almost ethereal moment as if someone were looking down on them and blessing their day.
Capturing Candid Wedding Photos
Rebekah and Joe told me they were drawn to my natural wedding photography style, which was perfect for them given their self-proclaimed lack of enthusiasm in front of the lens. Monty provided the perfect distraction during the portrait session, just after dinner. The lighting was perfect, and Monty was an absolute star, posing his paws off!
Their wedding colour theme was a sophisticated blend of mauve, gold, and white. The bridesmaids looked stunning in mauve dresses that complemented all their skin tones perfectly, while gold accents were beautifully incorporated throughout the day, particularly in the floral décor displayed in elegant urns.
The Beauty of Natural Wedding Photography
As a photographer, capturing candid wedding photos is always a priority for me. There’s something incredibly special about those unscripted moments that tell the true story of a couple’s day. Rebekah and Joe’s wedding at Hackness Grange was filled with these genuine, heartfelt moments that I was honoured to capture. From the serene outdoor ceremony to the joyful interactions with Monty, every image reflects the natural, unposed beauty of their day.
If you’re planning a wedding and are drawn to natural wedding photography, I’d love to chat about how we can capture the candid, authentic moments that will make your day truly unforgettable.
